Audi centenary to be celebrated at Goodwood
29 June 2009
Audi is to celebrate its 100th birthday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July.
"The focus of Audi's global celebrations is on the Festival of Speed with a truly breathtaking automotive 'monument' in front of Goodwood House," said the car manufacturer.
Combining the occasion with the festival's 2009 theme "True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance", the car brand will also be marking its recent success at the Le Mans competition.
The winning car from Le Mans, the Audi R10 TDI, will appear at Goodwood along with many famous current and former Audi drivers such as Walter Rohl, Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist and Allan McNish.
Also on display at the Goodwood House Estate will be the Audi Quattro rally cars - which will perform on the Goodwood Forest Rally Stage - and the pre-war Silver Arrows racers - the Grand Prix Auto Unions.
The very first post-war motor racing event at a permanent track was held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in 1948.
