Battle for the championship title 'hots up in MotoGP' The MotoGP title battle hots up as Valentino Rossi re-takes the leading position in the points, the event's official website reports.

Fiat Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo took second position at Sunday's (June 28th) race in Assen, the Netherlands.

"A wall separates the Fiat Yamaha duo in the garage, but these two rivals are even closer on track as the Spaniard [Lorenzo] gives his more experienced teammate plenty to worry about," explained MotoGP.com.

Five points now separates them in the World Championship standings with third-place rider Casey Stoner sitting just four points behind Lorenzo.

The next race in the championship - the eighth race of 2009 - will take place at Laguna Seca on the west coast of the USA.

Lorenzo crashed out of the American race in 2008, but he is not worried about the July 5th event.

He said that he had won the race in Japan this year without having been successful there in the past so he was not daunted by the prospect of the circuit.
