Day 1
Flights depart the UK for an overnight flight to Cape Town

Day 2
Arrive early morning in glorious Cape Town. Weather permitting we take our opportunity and head straight for Table Mountain and the magnificent views across Cape Town and the surrounding scenery. We continue into Cape Town and check in to our centrally located hotel, our base for the next 3-nights, and relax before dinner. (BD)

Day 3
A full day excursion this morning as we drive along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive (if open) to Cape Point where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean. There will be time to explore and marvel at the view before we continue to Simon’s Town and Boulder’s Beach –home of a wonderfully tame colony of Jackass penguins. En route back to Cape Town we stop at fascinating Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (B)

Day 4
Today has been reserved as a day at leisure. Take time to explore the impressive V&A Waterfront development or alternatively, enjoy an optional excursion to the nearby winelands around Stellenbosch and Paarl with the opportunity to sample some of the new world’s most famous wines. Dinner this evening is at leisure (B)

Day 5
We depart Cape Town this morning and head for Hermanus where visitors flock each year to catch a glimpse of the great Southern right whales that visit the area from June to December. We continue to Oudtshoorn or our overnight stay. (BD)

Day 6
This morning we’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour of the area, which includes a guided visit to an one of South Africa’s oldest Ostrich farms. This afternoon we continue to Knysna, where two night’s accommodation has been arranged. This stretch of coastline, better known as the Garden Route, is one of the most beautiful in the world with its towering cliffs, bays and beaches on backdrop of mountains and forests. (BD)

Day 7
Today we’ll travel to the nearby town of George where we’ll board the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe is the last remaining steam train in Africa. The train travels a scenic route of 67 kilometres through amazing scenery that cannot be seen from the road. We arrive back into Knysna in time to join a sunset cruise on Knysna Lagoon. (B)

Day 8
Departing Knysna we continue along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth stopping at Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park with a chance to see Storms River Bridge. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Port Elizabeth. (BD)

Day 9
We depart the Garden Route and take the short flight from PE to Durban in Kwazulu Natal travel on into Zululand, a spectacular region of hills and valleys where traditional tribal life still predominates. Traditional rondavel house dot the landscape, which is also home to a range of fauna and flora. Our destination is the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve where we will overnight. Dinner at the hotel (BD)

Day 10
This morning we enjoy an early morning game drive and then after breakfast we continue our journey across the border into the small, independent country of Swaziland where we will overnight. (BD)

Day 11
Mbabane, the capital Swaziland, is our first port of call today, which is treasure trove of traditional Southern African handicrafts including pottery, wood carving, tapestries and traditional soapstone carvings. We continue north, back into South Africa and on towards the border of the Kruger National Park, which will be our base for the next two nights. (BD)

Day 12
One of the highlights of the tour - we go in search of the “Big 5” inside the internationally renowned Kruger National Park game reserve. The reserve itself is roughly the size of Wales and has more than 100 species of mammal including buffalo, elephant, lion, zebra, rhino, impala, hippo and cheetah. This full day tour will be conducted on a 4x4 vehicles. This evening enjoy dinner at the Shangaan Village - Shangaan River Club is surrounded by the magic of the African bush. The Sabie River lazily flows past the fantastic restaurant where you can catch a glimpse of the local hippos that have come to graze. It is an enchanting setting where the African night comes alive (BD)

Day 13
Morning departure as we travel through the magnificent scenery of Mpumalanga (formerly Transvaal). We’ll view the panoramic God’s Window and see the Blyde River Canyon en route to South Africa’s capital city, Pretoria. Enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel. (BD)

Day 14
Our last full day in South Africa and there will be time to relax and perhaps do some last minute shopping for souvenirs. Alternatively, there is any optional township excursion to Soweto where will visit the former homes of two Nobel Prize winners and tour Nelson Mandela's home passing the famous Regina Mundi church (home to many activist organizations during the Apartheid era). After returning to our hotel it is time to transfer to Johannesburg International Airport for our return flight home. (B)

Arrival back in the UK.
