Hong Kong - Happy Valley Races and Sha Tin
In the Far East there is a passion for horse racing that borders on insanity. The heart of this is located in downtown Hong Kong at Happy valley racecourse on Hong Kong Island.
The track belongs to the Hong Kong Jockey Club and attending a race there is truly a unique experience.
Most races are floodlight at Happy Valley racecourse. If you are in Hong Kong when the races are on you will not be able to miss the irridescent glow of the lights from the track as they illuminate the skyscrapers and faces of the watching crowds.
Attending a race at the appropriately named Happy Valley is a once in a lifetime experience!
There are 2 major racecourses (racetracks) in Hong Kong. They are Sha Tin and Happy Valley. Happy Valley is the oldest racetrack in Hong Kong - founded in 1846. While the Sha Tin track has only been around since 1978. Both offer world-class racing.
Most Races at Happy Valley are held on Wednesdays throughout the season - Jan to July starting on the 5th Jan 2011.
Other races at Sha Tin are held on Saturdays/Sundays throughout the September to July season.
For guests who are determined to enjoy the races whilst they are in Hong Kong the other track is at Sha Tin in the New Territories.
Sha Tin, complete with its Penfold Park complex is located in the New Territories. It is the site of several world renowned races, the premier ones being The Hong Kong Cup, The Hong Kong Mile, The Hong Kong Vase, and The Hong Kong Sprint. All races in Hong Kong are run in clockwise direction. Once a tiny village on the shores of a shallow inlet, Sha Tin, is now a bustling new town of more than half a million people.

Races are held on most Wednesday evenings and Saturdays/Sundays throughout the September to July season.
